The Mistake

Here I stand before Thee,
With my life before me;
I tried and tried to walk my way,
And by myself I went astray;
But here am I, now on my knees,
Begging for a chance with Thee;
The clock of life is clicking away;
Here on earth I won’t soon stay;
So on my knees I beg Thee,
Take this burden from me.

I went through life all alone,
Thinking that it was my own;
I thought that I could rule my way,
I didn’t hesitate in that day;
I went about as I pleased,
Did everything I could dream;
I wish someone would of told me then,
What I know now so close to the end;
My life was wasted so now I go,
To warn others not to tread alone.
